Deep Tissue Massage is defined simply as the understanding of the layers of the body and the ability to work with the tissue in these layers to relax, lengthen, and/or realease holding patterns in the most effective way possible.
Stressed muscles will block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that will build up and store toxins in the muscle tissue. Deep tissue work is designed to free toxins and restore blood & oxygen circulation by working with (not on) tissue.
Most often, this technique will use slower strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, whether following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons, and fascia. In addition, proper deep tissue work will dispel misconceptions that painful work is more effective.
Remember, with the release of toxins it is important to properly hydrate the body to flush out and eliminate those toxins.
